Our School Values

At Pocklington Junior School we are “A Community of Ambitious, Respectful, Committed Individuals.”

Ambitious

We have a strong desire to challenge ourselves and succeed.

Respectful

We treat others as we would like to be treated.

Committed

We are resilient and work hard to achieve our goals.

Individuals

We each have our own strengths to reach our individual potential.

Our Vision

Our vision and aim:
“Every child at our school gets what they need”.

At Pocklington Junior School we recognise and celebrate our pupils’ individuality. We take pride in offering enriching opportunities for our children to grow both academically and personally as they strive to reach their individual potential. It is a pleasure to see our pupils flourish as the partnership between our dedicated colleagues, pupils and wider school community is nurtured.

British Values

At Pocklington Junior School, pupils don’t merely learn about British Values, but experience them through their day-to-day school lives.

Democracy: Pupils at Pocklington Junior School practise democracy in action through the annual elections of our school council and the termly elections of our school librarians. Pupils’ voices weigh in on important decisions such as the theme of our newly-refurbished library, and the end-of-term reward for the winning house.

Mutual Respect: Respect for all members of our school community is at the heart of our behaviour policy. We have regular opportunities during PSHE lessons and assemblies, and wider curriculum events such as Black History Month and Anti-bullying week, to develop our understanding of this fundamental British value.

Tolerance:  The acceptance and celebration of different beliefs permeates our curriculum, in particular, our RE and PSHE curriculum. Whole-school events such as Protected Characteristics Day and our fundraising for the ‘Little People’ charity help pupils to extend their understanding of tolerance. We are proud of our inclusive approach to pupils with SEND.

The Rule of Law: Our annual ‘Parliament Week’ provides a valuable opportunity for pupils to understand the laws and governance of the United Kingdom. On a school level, our behaviour policy and individual class charters ensure that pupils appreciate the role that rules and laws play in our lives.

Individual Liberty: Every pupil at our school is supported to develop self-knowledge and self-esteem. Our anti-bullying and growth mindset culture ensure that all pupils are confident to express themselves.
